Elena and I met coincidentally an online video stream. After countless daily Skype calls and chats, I decided to fly out to Russia to meet her. We tried to obtain visas from Canada and the US but were met with devastating rejection on both fronts. After much talk, we decided that despite the difficult circumstances we wanted to be together, so we decided to marry. Many countries don’t allow same sex marriage or don’t allow foreigners to marry. We also needed to find a place that didn’t require a visitor visa for Elena.
